Back in the 70’s, this all started when our
father had acquainted and befriended the living legend, Mr. Paeng
Araneta, a consummate fowl breeder and originator of Lemon 84. Leaving
for the States, he gave and entrusted our father some of his chicken,
and my brother ultimately got them and breed them tight. This was
the start of our backyard where we raised and produced quality lemon
birds which scored tremendously well in Negros, Cebu, and Iloilo
cockpits.
In the 80’s, we acquired other lines such
as Rubles, Hulseys, Mcleans and the Joe Goode greys. Still, the
lemon lines had been perpetuated as it was claiming good winning
percentage. We were then receiving orders for cocks to be sent to
Manila, Pampanga and even Palawan for fighting and breeding purposes.
The 90’s came and I thought it was the end
of our backyard work, seeing my brother starting a family of his
own. It really ended up when he parted with his beloved cocks and
gave most to his friends. Left in our backyard were some of the
seedfowls and maintained it.
The
mellinium year came and started a mango farm in my wife’s
coco land. Year 2002, I persuaded again my brother to restart and
transfer our seedowls to Mindanao, where the new farm will be situated
full time. Additional lines were raised, the likes of Boston Roundheads,
YL Hatches, BBSweaters, Payton Democrats, Clipper Greys, Copperheads
and the old Walter Kelso blood.
Now we’re back on provincial tours and neighboring
pits still claiming victories for Temy’s Farm entry of Basirang,
Tudela, Mis. Occ.
